MA illustration, Visiting Speaker - Tiffany Leeson from Egmont Publishing

Fantastic talk today from Tiffany Leeson Creative Director at Egmont Publishing.
Tiffany spoke to MA illustration students about children's books with messages, the changing face of children's publishing and working in collaboration with authors and illustrators.
We discussed how social media can promote an illustrator and how presentation skills have become more important. Tiffany showed some great examples from Egmont and showed us how the high quality children's book market has grown.
She then kindly discussed work in progress with some of our students.

Thanks to Bo for the use of the photo.

'The Mail Art Collection' collaborative brief is currently on display on the First Floor of the University Library (1B).

Thank you to all that submitted to the ‘Mail Art Collection’ call out.

The brief was to submit a piece of artwork responding to the theme of ‘EXCHANGE’, to be contained within an A5 envelope and posted.

The works will now form part of a touring exhibition, starting at the University Library, prior to moving to the Dental Academy, and Eldon Building coinciding with the Graduate Show 2016.

A catalogue of the works can be viewed here:

We were very lucky Friday to have the amazing Sara Fanelli come and talk about her beautiful illustrations and books. She showed some examples of who inspired her and talked about her working processes plus exciting new work. Sara then spent some time chatting to our illustration BA and MA students.

MA illustration Guest Speaker Jo Offer

Tuesday our guest speaker was Jo Offer from the University of Brighton. She spoke about Inclusive Arts Practice and had some great advice about working as a creative professional within this area.
Planing and running collaborative workshops, accessing training, ethical positions and research.

Illustration students also presented sessions on Advanced Practice. Dan and Helene spoke about using 3D software, such as MAYA and ZBrush to aid drawing, especially in relation to character design. Bo, Kilends and Chris gave an overview and demonstration of digital drawing tablets such as the Intuos, Bamboo and Cintiq. Erica and Yada showed examples of creating usual textures with watercolours, such as salt, cling film and scoring. Then we experimented with scraperboard, not so common these days, but great for creating very delicate line work in monochrome.

Thanks to Megan for the Photos
