Level 4 workshop - Typography

The first years have been exploring typography and the content of their book. Laser cut typefaces were inked up, traced and splattered for a variety of effects addressing their chosen books. It was an exciting workshop with much thinking outside of the box (and book). Enjoy!

The moving flow beneath me

I wave at the waves"

snubbed by her predesesor...
she is keen to leave

New Designers update

Congratulations to Dani Hackett on securing an internship with River Island, as a result of Exhibiting at the New Designers.
Dani sent this update:

A good bit of news is that I've managed to get myself an internship with River Island through New Designers! A woman who works there saw my work on the Wednesday and gave me a week to complete a brief, then after a quick Skype interview they offered it to me! So New Designers was definitely 100% worth it and couldn't be happier we got the opportunity. Here's an image I created for the brief:

"Ghost lines almost there, huge wall, this photo doesn't really show the scale, but its a tricky one to sketch, especially getting the proportions and perspective correct. It's all freehand, sketched by eye, no grids, guides or projections! I do like to challenge myself !"

Alumni News - Neequaye's latest street art project featured in The Guardian on Sunday

Artist Neequaye Dreph Dsane paints huge, beautiful pictures that celebrate black women’s stories in London

(Following excerpt from The Guardian)

London-based Ghanaian artist Neequaye Dreph Dsane has been busy adorning the capital’s walls with large, beautifully painted images of women of African and Caribbean origin as part of his You Are Enough series. The 43-year-old street artist aims to inspire and celebrate “amazing women who are not given the visibility they deserve”, by utilising the power of a very public art form to shine a light and empower. “Through the paintings and subjects’ backstories, I am paying tribute to ordinary women who do extraordinary work for the betterment of their communities and society,” he says.

Alumni News - Well done Jade!

Well done Jade!

(Following excerpt from A+ C Studios website)

A+C Studios is delighted to announce a new member of the A+C family, in the form of an addition to our growing director roster.

Jade Spranklen is a 2D animation director and visual artist who goes by the gothic pseudonym, Sprankenstein. A doodler since a young age, Jade graduated with a First Class Illustration degree from Portsmouth University of Art and Design.

Hailing originally from London, Jade has quickly become a big part of the thriving creative scene in Margate. Jade’s wildly imaginative, often spooky style has become her trademark, with her projects often steering toward dark themes and twisted fairytales.

Much of Jade’s video work is 2D illustrated elements which animate over the top of live action shot video, which is a style that’s extremely popular at the moment; particularly with branded content for social media. She also creates wholly 2D animations that often feature unique flowing flourish style elements and transitions.

Being based in Margate means that Jade can work at the studio in a reactive way – available to jump on board to direct and illustrate on projects very quickly.

Her work has been featured by many major brands such as Levi’s and Dr Martens. She has also created work for global ASOS social media campaigns. Jade is heavily involved with creative work for the music industry, producing animation for lyric videos by artists such as Kygo and Benjamin Francis Leftwich.

Jade commented,

“I’m really excited to join A+C. Margate is an inspirational place to be at the moment and it’s amazing to be here doing what I’m passionate about – illustration and animation. I think my style will really compliment the work being done by the studio and I’m already getting stuck in directing some great projects.”

A+C Producer Russell Jamieson said:

“We’ve all been big fans of Jade’s work for a while and were really happy with the work she did on a couple of recent collaborations, so it feels great to now be formally representing her. Jade’s unique style brings something new and exciting to A+C and I’m really looking forward to working with her again on upcoming commercial projects.”
